Little known shop by local people and absolutly unknown by foreign visitors… Hot glass studio where artists Barbara and Jean Claude create their unique jewelry, tableware, glassware, souvenirs and gifts. Barbara and Jean Claude have been crafting in glass since 1994. Having started in stained glass they have added to their skills, fused and slumped glass and lamp worked glass beads. Glass mosaic, pewter, chain maille and pottery. Studio 44 Mauritius is situated in the heart of the small village of Calodyne, Grand Gaube on the north east coast of Mauritius. They have the certification of “ made in moris ” to confirm that at least 60% of the product is locally manufactured. Lamp worked glass beads by Barbara made with Italian glass rods manufactured in Murano, Italy and crafted into unique pieces of silver plated jewelry and tableware. The tableware is of high quality stainless steel decorated with Barbara’s handcrafted beads and is dishwasher friendly. It will not tarnish or rust. A great gift for your loved ones! The glass rods are melted in a torch onto stainless steel rods and each bead is made one by one and decorated in the flame and then annealed in a kiln overnight to remove stress and ensure that the bead will last beyond a lifetime. Barbara enjoys sharing her passion for glass and will happily demonstrate her lampworking skills. Jean Claude crafts beautiful unique bowls, platters, lamps and decorative panels for the home. The glass is hand painted, fused, slumped and is safe for use with food. Glass panels for doors and windows are designed and crafted using coloured stained glass and lead or hand painted. They have recently started The Craft Academy where they teach their passion. Subjects are stained glass, pewter and jewelry making. Courses are for duration of two to three sessions, depending on the project. Everybody is welcome. Take a trip for your shopping, you will love it!
