The Tea Route

“The Tea Route” offers an excursion in 3 steps where you will discover the history of our island, its traditions and flavours of the local ‘terroir’. You will visit the colonial period while visiting the different houses and gardens. Discover the methods of distilling rum and essential oils, the know-how of tea culture and other local sights. It is a journey into the heart of Mauritius ‘s tradition.

Bois Cheri

Head to the tea plant. The guides will be happy to show and explain the different stages of production.A tea museum completes the visit.

The Domaine des Aubinaux

A typical colonial mansion of the late 19th century located in the highlands. Guides will offer a cultural tour of the house built in 1872, where you will discover furniture dating from the East India Company and a beautiful collection of vintage photos. You will also visit the old stables and essential oil distillery

Saint Aubin

The last step is a few kilometers north of Souillac towards Rivière des Anguilles.At Saint Aubin discover a colonial house built in 1819. It was the residence of the various directors of the sugar estate, and was renovated in the 90’s. This place has been transformed into a table d’hôte and offers typical Mauritian meal. A small sugar factory has been recreated for visitors. You can also visit the Rhum Distillery.
