Taste Buddies : The street food Maestro.

It’s up to you to choose your street food tour ! Whether at Grand Bay, Port Louis or Mahébourg, you will discover Mauritius through its gastronomy.

Founded in 2017, Taste Buddies will give you an authentic dining experience off the beaten path, while sharing with you the story of Mauritius through the discovery of places that only few people know. A « discovery walk » through the typical streets of Mauritius, you will also be taken to the heart of the history of the old town and, as you stroll around, your breath will be taken away by the many local and architectural riches, while eating different local flavors that emanate from improvised street kitchens. Accompanied by a guide speaking French and English, you will live a few hours in the middle of the local population, listening to their anecdotes, their stories, the history of Mauritius of yesteryear by the ancients.

Tropical fruits directly from the local market peeled in front of you with great dexterity, dholl puri, thin cakes with yellow split peas and filled with “carry gros pois”, pickled vegetables and rougaille. But also the famous « glaçon pilé » crushed ice cube in english, very popular in times of strong heat, perfumed with syrups of all kinds, not to mention the “alouda”, a must during the outings, peculiar texture and typically Mauritian based on basil seeds soaked, agar-agar, milk and aromas. Sino-Mauritian flavors, mine frits – fried mine, vindaye, rougaille, and much more. A range of culinary flavors to discover!

Its varied range of tasting trips is the perfect opportunity to discover more about the island’s past and thus better understand the origins of its cultural diversity, while tasting the culinary specialties that make up the multiculturalism of this beautiful island.
